Why Mustard is Autumn’s Must-Have Colour
Year on year mustard proves to be autumn’s must have colour and 2019 is certainly no exception. We’ve seen the deep yellow shade pop up in several of our collections, and it’s been a big hit with both our in store and online customers.
Why do so many people love mustard?
Mustard is an incredibly distinctive colour. It has the warmth of a bright yellow whilst its darker tones allow it to be a more understated colour option.
Yellow is the most visible colour because of the high amount of light that is reflected on the eye. It is therefore a very attention grabbing shade. Offsetting an outfit with mustard accessories can help accentuate or pull focus to a favourite feature.
It is quite a high energy and happy tone, as the nights draw in and weather get drearier we love to see cheerful colours in our wardrobes. Mustard along with other autumnal shades reflect the season beautifully, matching the colour of trees and fallen leaves.
Mustard is a complementary colour. It can be paired with so many other hues from black to berry reds to greys and even violet. The most common colour match is tan and brown. The rich earthiness of these colours complement the softness of lighter mustards perfectly. Because the shade is so versatile it is well received by almost all complexions and colourings. Almost anyone can carry off the colour when paired with the right shade.
