Food Food Glorious Food
Food Food Glorious Food.
Although there are so many different angles to Christmas, over-indulgence, consumerism, and religion to name a few and whilst we all approach it differently there is a common thread to most people’s festive celebrations. Food!
It occupies minds and can be the topic of just as many conversations as what to buy each other. Not only that but there seems to be a new wave of food combinations which finds itself onto supermarket shelves. Think cranberry, pork and fig stuffing!
Let’s face it rightly or wrongly some supermarkets are only closed for the one day. So we aren’t going to starve. There is a phenomenal amount of calories consumed on Christmas Day. One google search states 6000 for the average person.
One day Feasting
There is also the tendency to make every meal a luxury, I have been guilty of smoked salmon and champagne for breakfast, with a selection of pastries. Some families eat at lunchtime, some choose to eat later in the day, in fact sometimes it just blends into a whole day feast.
These are modern times and it has been really refreshing to see the full range of vegan, gluten free, or yeast free products that have adorned our shelves. One of the down-sides I feel has to be because of the hours worked by those in retail. A national supermarket near to where I live goes to 24 hour opening for about a week before Christmas.
No matter what your variation of Christmas food is, no matter where you eat it or when. Everyone here at Norma James wish you a very Merry Christmas and an amazing 2019.
